DO YOU NEED A SAVIOR?

Do you need a savior? A savior from what? you might ask. The answer to that question can only be found in God’s word, the Bible. Let us see how the Bible answers this important question.

The question has to do with sin. The Greek word translated “sin” in 1 John 3:4 is from a Greek word meaning “to wander from the law of God, violate God's law, sin,” according to Thayer. It is translated “sin” 172 times in the New Testament. John writes in 1 John 3:4, “everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.” Sin is lawlessness, that is, that which is contrary to the Law of Christ. The King James Version translates the verse, “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” Sin is the transgression of the Law of Christ.

Paul writes in Romans 3:23, “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” We have all sinned!  Sin is serious. Paul writes in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Yes, you need a savior!

Jesus said in  Mark 2:17, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”  The Apostle Paul writes in Titus 2:13-14, “…Christ Jesus who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.”

Yes, you need a savior. The good news is that there is a savior. When Paul wrote in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” he continued in verse 24, “…being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus…” When he wrote in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death,” he continued, “…but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Jesus died so that you might be saved from the eternal consequences of your sins, spiritual death in hell. Paul writes in Romans 5:

For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

The apostle continues, “Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him” (Rom. 5:9).
